June Wrap Up!

Hey, guys! It is that time again. Time for an extremely overdue monthly wrap up! I am sorry for the brief hiatus I had. I was dealing with some University problems, and I just lost track of the amount of days it had been between the last time I posted and now. I enjoyed most of the books I read in June, and I definitely read more than I expected to. I read three books that month, and that is pretty decent considering I am going through a reading slump right now. And because of that reading slump, I am currently eight books behind schedule on my 2017 Goodreads Reading Goal, which is to read seventy books by the end of the year. Hopefully I can kick this reading slump before the end of the summer, but who knows. Its a toss up right now. But let’s go ahead and get into the books I read in June!

The first book I read in June was Train Wreck by Elise Faber.

train2bwreck2bflat2bcover

This is a standalone adult contemporary romance novel that I was sent for review by the author, so thank you so much for sending this my way, Elise! This is a book that I absolutely loved and read in one sitting. This novel is one that I think you should go blindly into. That’s what I did, and it surprised me with how much I ended up loving it. Just know it is gripping and very addictive, despite the super cheesy cover. But I did review this, and I ended up giving it 5/5 stars. It was just a really amazing novel, and I highly recommend you check it out!

The next book I read was Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves.

9781101935996

Yeah, that’s right. I finally finished it, and I am really sad to say the blood, sweat and tears that I went through to force myself to finish the book were not worth it. I ended up being really disappointed by this book, and you could arguably say this only made my reading slump so much worse. But this is the first book in a fantasy trilogy that follows this girl named Anna Arden who lives in a magical society where magic equates your status, and she is born of a family with magic, yet she doesn’t seem to possess any herself. However, she does have this ability to unravel or break spells, and this catches the eye of a few too many people, so her mother sends her away to live with her grandmother in Hungary where she may find herself in the throes of war and rebellion. While that may sound very intriguing, I did not like this book, like at all. I had problems with the writing, the story line (or the lack of a concrete one), the so-called romance in the novel, and the magic system. I just was really disappointed by this one because I thought I was going to like it, and I did not. If you are interested in my full thoughts on this novel, I did review it, but I ended up giving it 3/5 stars.

And the last book I read in June was Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi.

13188676

I am so proud of myself, guys. I finally did it. I finally finished off the Shatter Me trilogy! But if you are somehow unaware of what this series is about, it is a dystopian series that follows our main character Juliette whose touch literally will kill you. That is all I can tell you. But I flew through the last half of this novel in one sitting because I was loving every single second of this novel. This is hands down my favorite book of the trilogy, and it was the best one, especially in writing, in my opinion. I think Tahereh’s writing grew a lot with this novel. But I did review this, and it is mostly about me gushing about the novel, but if you want to read my full thoughts on this finale, I definitely recommend checking that review out. I gave this novel 5/5 stars.

And there you have it! Those were all the books I read in June. What books are you most interested in reading before the end of summer? Comment down below! I would love to know. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed this, and I will see you next time!

June Book Haul

Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about the books I bought/received in the month of June! Now I was on a book-buying ban, but you know me. As soon as I get enough cash to buy a book, I immediately run to the bookstore. But I actually only ended up buying two of the seven books, so I didn’t go crazy. I am on another book-buying ban, though…But let’s go ahead and get into the book haul!

The first book I bought this month was Definitions of Indefinable Things by Whitney Taylor.

26221374

This is a standalone contemporary novel that follows two depressed teens who end up meeting while getting prescriptions for their antidepressants. This is a love story, but from what I’ve heard, it is not the sort of novel where love cures you of depression or any other mental illness, which has me really excited to read this. In addition to this, I believe this novel is different from other novels about depression because our main character, Reggie, doesn’t have a trigger. There was no trauma or abuse or anything like that growing up, which mirrors my experience with depression, so I definitely feel that I will connect with the story and the characters a lot, so I am just really excited to get to this one.

The last book I bought was Ninth Grade Slays by Heather Brewe.

2272813

This is the second book in The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series, and I actually don’t have the first book, but this book was marked down to a quarter at a local bargain store, so I just bought it. All I know about the series is it involves some aspect of vampirism. I know a lot of people really enjoy this series, and I’ve been meaning to read it for like ever. So maybe having the second book will give me incentive to buy the first book and start reading this series. But I am really excited to maybe one day in the near future read this.

The first book I received was Train Wreck by Elise Faber.

train2bwreck2bflat2bcover

This was sent to me for review by the author, so thank you so much for sending this to me! This is a standalone adult contemporary romance novel that I actually have already read and reviewed, and it was absolutely fabulous. I didn’t really know much of anything regarding this novel going into it, and I definitely think that’s the way to go. But this book gave me all of the feels, and I cried several times while reading this. It just was so good, and I am so happy that Elise sent this to me because I loved it. This book was released on May 31 of this year, so I definitely recommend you pick it up!

The next book I received was Fates and Furies by Raye Wagner.

34306933

This was sent to me by the author, so thank you so much, Raye, and I am so freaking excited to read this. This is the fourth and final book in Raye’s fantabulous Sphinx series, and I am so hyped for this novel. You all should know by now how completely obsessed I am with this series, and I am so excited that I get another opportunity to work with Raye Wagner because she is like the sweetest person ever. But this series has greek mythology, kickass characters, amazing plot lines, and just general badassery. This is one of my all time favorite series, and if you haven’t picked this up yet, what are you doing with your life? You have got to read this series! But I am super excited to see how this series wraps up in the final installment! I am sure it will give me all the feels and it will be epic an everything I want, so I am so down for this novel.

The next book I received was The Wildling Sisters by Eve Chase.

31851232

This book was sent to my for review by G. P. Putnam’s Sons, so thank you so much for sending this book my way! This book is scheduled to be released on July 25, so definitely keep your eye out for it! From what I can tell, this book follows four very close sisters in 1959 who are spending the summer at Applecote Manor, a place they haven’t returned to in over five years, not since their sister, Audrey, vanished. They begin to discover the dark secrets of the Manor and end up starting to drift apart until one explosive night when they form a powerful bond that is much thicker than blood. This book sounds so interesting! It seems like it will be a bit of a mystery and definitely a thriller, so I am very excited to get to this very soon!

The next book I received was Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless by Liz Czukas.

20646933

This is a YA contemporary novel that follows a girl named Chloe who is having a pretty terrible time at the moment because everything is going wrong. From crashing a cart into a customer’s car right in front of one of her not-so-nice coworkers to being caught in a snowstorm that has ruined her hair and the way she looks, resulting in absolutely zero progress with her crush and coworker, Tyson. And to top it all off, she is being accused (along with the other teenage employees) of stealing $10,000. So this follows her dealing with all of this and trying to prove her innocence in stealing the money. I received this from Rachel @ Life of a Female Bibliophile who hosted the Fun In the Sun giveaway, and I won the YA box! So thank you so much, Rachel, for hosting the giveaway and sending this my way!

And the last book I received in the month of June was Charm & Strange by Stephanie Kuehn.

16045088

I really can’t tell you much of anything regarding this novel, to be honest. I’ve never heard of it, the synopsis is really confusing, and from the couple of reviews I read, you will spend the entirety of this novel wondering what the hell is going on. I do know that this is a psychological mystery novel with apparently a very explosive ending, so if one has patience, the ending makes all of the frustration and confusion of the rest of the novel worthwhile. I can tell you that this was the second book I received from the Fun in the Sun giveaway hosted by Rachel @ Life of a Female Bibliophile, and I am apprehensive, but still very excited to get into this!

And there you have it! That was my June Book Haul. What is your favorite psychological thriller that you have read? Comment down below! I would love to know. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!

June TBR!

Hey, guys! I am so excited to talked about the books I can hopefully get to before the end of the month. My reading life has not been the best over the past few months, but hopefully I can change that this month before I get too much behind on my reading goal for this year. I honestly just think I need to read really short books, so that is what I am going to be doing. But let’s just go ahead and get into the books I want to read in the month of June!

The first book I plan on reading this month is Nothing But Shadows by Cassandra Clare & Sarah Rees Brennan.

23381003

This is the fourth book in the novella series Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy, and I am really excited to get one step closer to finally finishing it. I have just been dragging my feet with this, and I do have half a mind to see if I can get a hold of the audiobooks for the rest of the series so I won’t have to drag my feet with it, and I can just marathon it. I just want to finish it so I can read Lord of Shadows. But this series follows a character from The Mortal Instruments series, and I can’t tell you who that is because that is a major spoiler for the finale to that series, which is City of Heavenly Fire. But this series is really good, but it takes me 5ever to make my way through it. Hopefully I can push myself to read this!

The next book I hope to read is Train Wreck by Elise Faber.

train2bwreck2bflat2bcover

This is a standalone contemporary novel that I was sent for review by the author, and I am really excited to read this. This is definitely an adult novel, so it has mature content. It follows the daughter of a famous film producer named Pepper O’Brien who has screwed up a lot in her life, and after her latest disaster, she moves across the country to start over where she meets her former teenage crush who also happens to be the best friend of her older brother. I am all over this story line like white on rice, and I am so freaking excited to see where the story leads, so hopefully I will get to this very soon.

And the last book I plan on reading in the month of June is The Evil We Love by Cassandra Clare & Robin Wasserman.

23381005

This is the fifth book in the Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy series, and this one actually seems like it is going to be the most interesting one yet as it involves the rise of the Circle and what made Valentine rise up against the Clave. I am super interested in this one, so hopefully I can get to it. This series does occur after the events of City of Heavenly Fire, but prior to the events of Lady Midnight, and I am hoping that someone will finally answer me to say if I need to read the rest of this series before I read Lord of Shadows because if I don’t have to, I will briefly stop reading this series, and I will marathon Lord of Shadows. But for now, looks like I will just keep reading this series…

And there you have it! That was all of the books I plan on reading in the month of June. What books are you planning on reading? Comment down below! I would love to know. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!

June Wrap Up

Hello! Hi. Another month has gone by. *laughs* That rhymed…Anyway, in a month and a half I am heading off to college. How insane is that? I did not read as many books as I have been reading, but I am still pretty happy about it. Honestly, I thought the number might be one or two, but I read six books this month. Let’s get into the books I read in June!

The first book I read was Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

16068905

I reread this and as many of you know, this is my favorite book of all time. This reread did not disappoint. It was as wonderful and relatable as when I first read it over a year ago. I am Cath. That’s just all there is to it. I love it! Definitely 5/5 hearts and I did a Spoiler-Free Review, which I will link right here.

The next book that I read was The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan.

26252859

This is the first book in Rick’s new Trials of Apollo series and while I did enjoy this, it is definitely not my favorite book that he’s written, which sucks because I was expecting to enjoy this much more than I did. It was hilarious and action-packed, but there was no breathing time in between the action-packed moments, which really hindered my overall enjoyment of this book. I loved all of the cross-over and new characters that were introduced, but it felt rushed to me, which is why I knocked half a heart off the rating and gave it 4.5/5 hearts. If you would like to know all of my spoilery thoughts, you should check out my review, which I will link here.

The next book that I read was The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

15283043

This is a cute, funny, fluffy contemporary that pretty much pulled me all the way out of my reading slump. It was my first book by Kasie West that I ever read and I really enjoyed it. She took a cliche idea (rich guy falls for poor girl) and made it original and deep and complex. I loved this love story. It felt very realistic and dealt with deep topics. It was also a sort of coming of age story and I just overall really loved this book. I gave this 5/5 hearts.

The next book that I read was Sacrificed to the Dragon by Jessie Donovan.

22717692

This was a very sexy and intriguing paranormal novel. I found the aspect of dragon shifters very fascinating. The love story was alluring and sexy and I loved every page of it. I loved the complex characters and how this story approached PTSD. It showed how realistic and very serious it is, which I really appreciated. I loved the writing style, the plotline, and all the characters. It was just a really amazing and compelling book that I absolutely fell in love with from page one. I gave this 4.5/5 hearts.

The next book that I read was Fever Claim by Marie Johnston.

26704850

This is the first book in a paranormal series that I absolutely fell in love with. I honestly went into this expecting it to be pretty cliche and that I wouldn’t like it. That was not the case. I instantly fell in love with these characters, this story line, and this fabulous love story. I loved Marie’s writing style and how she wove the characters into situations. This was just an overall fantastic book and I highly recommend it for those seventeen and up. I gave this 5/5 hearts.

The last book I read in the month of June was Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.

15507958

This is an adult contemporary novel that has been sweeping the nation. It is completely over hyped because of the movie that just came out and because of that hype, I was expecting a little bit more. I was sadly disappointed with this novel, though I did still really enjoy it. I just don’t think it completely lives up to the hype. I loved the characters, the plot line, and the writing style. However, I saw the ending coming a mile away. It didn’t make me sad or upset. I didn’t cry, but I did really enjoy this novel. I definitely recommend you pick it up and see what you think of it. I gave it 4.5/5 hearts.

And those were all the books that I read in the month of June. What was your favorite book I read this month and why? Comment down below. I would love to know. That is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

June Book Haul

Hello! For the first time in my blogging history, I am deciding to do a monthly book haul because I got so many books this month that I have to share what I got. As many of you know, I have a really bad book buying tendency/problem. In fact, I was yelled at twice this month for buying too many books and my mom almost confiscated my debit card. I bought/received nine books this month, so let’s get into the book haul!

20160628_151726

The first book I bought is A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

This book is the second book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and I am still currently reading it. I’ve been slowly making my way through this book all month. I have this bad habit of picking up this book, maybe reading a couple of pages and then putting it down and not reading it for days at a time (I did this again a couple of days ago). But more on that in my monthly wrap up. The first book is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast while this one is a retelling of Persephone and Hades. These books are phenomenal and I highly recommend you check them out. I did a book review on ACOTAR, which I will link here.

The next book I received is Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

This was one of my favorite childhood books. My grandmother found it at a garage sale and thought of me, so I finally own it in physical form (I have the e-book original version on my kindle along with its sequel Through the Looking Glass). If you don’t know what this is, you obviously have been living under a rock. Its a great book to read as a kid because it encourages embracing your awesomeness and teaches you that its okay to be different, wacky, and crazy. It really taught me to be myself and not worry about what other people will think. I don’t think I would be who I am today without this book.

The next book that I bought is Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

This is a contemporary novel that I’ve been dying to get my hands on and I saw a hardback edition when I was in Louisville at Half-Price Books for like less than five dollars, so obviously I had to have it. It follows a girl whose father is dying, so before he dies, her and her family spend one last summer with each other before he dies. This is what I think it is about, but I could be wrong. This sounds super sad, but also interesting and this is most people’s favorite Morgan Matson novel, so that has me even more intrigued. I am super excited to get into this one soon.

The next book that I received is Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards

This is the sequel to Black City, a dystopian romance novel that I read my sophomore year of high school. I’ve been interested in what happens in the rest of this series, so I will hopefully get to this some time. I saw it in The Dollar Tree, so Mom bought it for me. I honestly don’t remember all that much of Black City, so I will have to skim it to refresh my memory, but it was intriguing, if not a little cliched, but I am very interested in knowing what became of the characters.

The next book that I bought is Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

This is an adult contemporary novel that’s been sweeping the nation because of the release of the movie (which I still haven’t seen). I actually read this over vacation when I took a break from reading ACOMAF and I really enjoyed it. I do think it is really over hyped. I didn’t cry or feel sad while reading it, though I do really recommend it because it is a powerful story. It involves a controversial topic, a quadriplegic man, and an ordinary girl who learns to be extraordinary. It is a great novel and I think you should read it before seeing the movie. My review will be up soonish.

The next book that I bought is Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This is the first book in a dystopian trilogy that I have heard nothing but fantastic things about. From what I can gather, Mars has been colonized and everyone is separated into colors. There is some type of rebellion, like all dystopian novels. I know its supposed to be kickass and amazing and I am so excited to read this. I will probably read this next month, which is exciting because I haven’t read a dystopian novel in so long. It will definitely be refreshing.

The next book that I bought is Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

This is the Sarah Dessen book that pretty much everyone has read and I was told I had to read this. This is a contemporary that I know nothing about other than it might deal with a mental disorder? Maybe not. I could have that wrong. But I loved The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen, I love her writing, her writing style, and the way she weaves a story, so I know I’ll love this and I am anticipating getting to this very soon.

The next book that I bought is The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

This is a contemporary novel that I’ve actually already read and I loved it. This was my first Kasie West novel and it was fantastic. It involves a rich guy falling for a poor girl and as cliche as that sounds, it was actually very complex and interesting. This book made me literally LOL several times. It was cute and fluffy and funny and man did I love this book. I definitely recommend this and my review will be up soonish.

The last book that I bought is Crash Into You by Katie McGarry

This is a book that I’ve wanted to get for a while and as many of you know, I have no impulse control, so I bought it at Books A Million. Its a contemporary novel that involves a rich good girl who flirts with the dark side and she meets the bad boy who apparently saves her life. That is enough for me to want to read this now. I am super pumped to get into this no matter that this is the reason my debit card was almost confiscated. I feel like this is going to be worth it.

And that is going to be it for this book haul today. What book are you most interested in or love the most? Comment down below. I would love to know. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

June TBR

Hello! Wow. I can’t believe that it is already June! The year is seriously flying by at the speed of light. My TBR for this month is not very much, but that is only because it is the summer and I have no motivation currently to read at all. I know, I know. It is pretty sad. And did I mention that this is my one hundredth post on my blog. Hazaah! I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO CELEBRATE IN A GRAND FASHION. But anyway, I just wanted to briefly celebrate this and now we can get onto the books that I want to read in June.

The first book I want/need to read is The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan.

9304942

This is the final book in the Percy Jackson series and I have been desperately trying to convince myself to read this book. I want to read it, but I have no motivation to just sit down and read it. And it sucks because I can’t read The Hidden Oracle until I read this book. So if you know of any ways to gain motivation to read in general, you should comment down below because I need help.

The second book that I plan on reading is The Diviners by Libba Bray.

85786e92e4151373f8599e31621e32b9

I don’t know if you’re aware, but I have been trying to read this book for months, but it hasn’t happened yet. From what I can recall, it involves 1920’s New York, kids with powers, murder, suspense, horror, and I cannot believe I haven’t read this yet. Or finished, rather. Honestly, I haven’t finished it yet because I find our main character, Evie, super annoying. But nonetheless, I will try my best to read this.

And the final book that I want to read in June is The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan.

26252859

This is the first book in the Trials of Apollo series and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED to read this! I love Apollo and I am excited to see him and go on adventures with him. In this story, Apollo has angered Zeus (I have no idea why; I haven’t read the Heroes of Olympus series and I do not plan to), so to punish him, Zeus has sentenced him to the life of a teenage boy, a half-blood. Obviously he has to go to Camp Half-Blood, so it is about his adventures there. I am so excited to see how this story turns out.

Those are the books that I want to try to read in the month of June. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it,  and I will see you next time.

Love You All to Luna and Back,

Allie
