June Book Haul

Hey, guys! I am super excited to talk about the books I bought/received in the month of June! Now I was on a book-buying ban, but you know me. As soon as I get enough cash to buy a book, I immediately run to the bookstore. But I actually only ended up buying two of the seven books, so I didn’t go crazy. I am on another book-buying ban, though…But let’s go ahead and get into the book haul!

The first book I bought this month was Definitions of Indefinable Things by Whitney Taylor.

26221374

This is a standalone contemporary novel that follows two depressed teens who end up meeting while getting prescriptions for their antidepressants. This is a love story, but from what I’ve heard, it is not the sort of novel where love cures you of depression or any other mental illness, which has me really excited to read this. In addition to this, I believe this novel is different from other novels about depression because our main character, Reggie, doesn’t have a trigger. There was no trauma or abuse or anything like that growing up, which mirrors my experience with depression, so I definitely feel that I will connect with the story and the characters a lot, so I am just really excited to get to this one.

The last book I bought was Ninth Grade Slays by Heather Brewe.

2272813

This is the second book in The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series, and I actually don’t have the first book, but this book was marked down to a quarter at a local bargain store, so I just bought it. All I know about the series is it involves some aspect of vampirism. I know a lot of people really enjoy this series, and I’ve been meaning to read it for like ever. So maybe having the second book will give me incentive to buy the first book and start reading this series. But I am really excited to maybe one day in the near future read this.

The first book I received was Train Wreck by Elise Faber.

train2bwreck2bflat2bcover

This was sent to me for review by the author, so thank you so much for sending this to me! This is a standalone adult contemporary romance novel that I actually have already read and reviewed, and it was absolutely fabulous. I didn’t really know much of anything regarding this novel going into it, and I definitely think that’s the way to go. But this book gave me all of the feels, and I cried several times while reading this. It just was so good, and I am so happy that Elise sent this to me because I loved it. This book was released on May 31 of this year, so I definitely recommend you pick it up!

The next book I received was Fates and Furies by Raye Wagner.

34306933

This was sent to me by the author, so thank you so much, Raye, and I am so freaking excited to read this. This is the fourth and final book in Raye’s fantabulous Sphinx series, and I am so hyped for this novel. You all should know by now how completely obsessed I am with this series, and I am so excited that I get another opportunity to work with Raye Wagner because she is like the sweetest person ever. But this series has greek mythology, kickass characters, amazing plot lines, and just general badassery. This is one of my all time favorite series, and if you haven’t picked this up yet, what are you doing with your life? You have got to read this series! But I am super excited to see how this series wraps up in the final installment! I am sure it will give me all the feels and it will be epic an everything I want, so I am so down for this novel.

The next book I received was The Wildling Sisters by Eve Chase.

31851232

This book was sent to my for review by G. P. Putnam’s Sons, so thank you so much for sending this book my way! This book is scheduled to be released on July 25, so definitely keep your eye out for it! From what I can tell, this book follows four very close sisters in 1959 who are spending the summer at Applecote Manor, a place they haven’t returned to in over five years, not since their sister, Audrey, vanished. They begin to discover the dark secrets of the Manor and end up starting to drift apart until one explosive night when they form a powerful bond that is much thicker than blood. This book sounds so interesting! It seems like it will be a bit of a mystery and definitely a thriller, so I am very excited to get to this very soon!

The next book I received was Top Ten Clues You’re Clueless by Liz Czukas.

20646933

This is a YA contemporary novel that follows a girl named Chloe who is having a pretty terrible time at the moment because everything is going wrong. From crashing a cart into a customer’s car right in front of one of her not-so-nice coworkers to being caught in a snowstorm that has ruined her hair and the way she looks, resulting in absolutely zero progress with her crush and coworker, Tyson. And to top it all off, she is being accused (along with the other teenage employees) of stealing $10,000. So this follows her dealing with all of this and trying to prove her innocence in stealing the money. I received this from Rachel @ Life of a Female Bibliophile who hosted the Fun In the Sun giveaway, and I won the YA box! So thank you so much, Rachel, for hosting the giveaway and sending this my way!

And the last book I received in the month of June was Charm & Strange by Stephanie Kuehn.

16045088

I really can’t tell you much of anything regarding this novel, to be honest. I’ve never heard of it, the synopsis is really confusing, and from the couple of reviews I read, you will spend the entirety of this novel wondering what the hell is going on. I do know that this is a psychological mystery novel with apparently a very explosive ending, so if one has patience, the ending makes all of the frustration and confusion of the rest of the novel worthwhile. I can tell you that this was the second book I received from the Fun in the Sun giveaway hosted by Rachel @ Life of a Female Bibliophile, and I am apprehensive, but still very excited to get into this!

And there you have it! That was my June Book Haul. What is your favorite psychological thriller that you have read? Comment down below! I would love to know. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!

A Very Overdue Book Haul!

Hey, guys! I am very excited to finally come at you with a (finally) new book haul. I haven’t come out with one since like February, which is kind of crazy. So I have accumulated some books since then. Some I have been sent by authors and publishers and others I have picked up myself. This is going to be my only post for the week because I am super busy, but hope to get more up next week! But I am really excited to share these nine books with you guys, so let’s go ahead and get into the books I have accumulated over the past couple of months!

The first book I got my hands on was Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi.

13188676

This is the third and final book in the fantastic Shatter Me trilogy, and I am like one of the only people in the world that hasn’t finished off this series. This is a dystopian series that follows our main character Juliette whose touch literally will kill you. I know that I will fly through this book as I do with all of Tahereh’s other books in the series, but I am just kind of terrified of what she will do to my babies. I know that she takes one of the characters from the earlier books and twists him somehow in this novel, and I am kind of not ready to see that. But I am very excited to read this because I love the story and I am in love with Tahereh’s poetic writing style. Its just beautiful. But hopefully I will get to this one soon.

The next book I picked up was The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

32075671

This is a debut contemporary novel that is inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, and I have heard nothing but fantastic things about it. I am super excited to read it, but it follows Starr Carter, a black teen girl who lives in a pretty poor, predominantly black neighborhood but goes to school at a private, predominantly white, prep school who witnesses her black, unarmed best friend be murdered by a cop, and she is the only one who knows what happened, so what she does or doesn’t say could not only deeply affect her community, it could really endanger her life. Everyone has been raving about this novel, so I finally decided to pick it up, and I am very excited to get to this!

The next book I bought was A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas.

23766634

This is the third and final book in Sarah’s fantastic A Court of Thorns and Roses series, and I am absolutely terrified to read this. I just am scared of what is going to go down in this book. It will wreck me; that’s for sure. But this is a high fantasy series that follows a girl named Feyre who is a huntress because she needs to put food on her family’s very poor table and one day she ends up shooting a faerie, thus angering one of the High Fae so much that as payment, she will be forced to live as his prisoner. This is a series of retellings with the first book, ACOTAR, being a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, the second book, ACOMAF, being a retelling of Hades and Persephone, and I am not aware of what retelling this book is portraying. But I am very excited to hopefully get to this one soon!

The next book that I bought was More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera.

26236898

This is a book that I bought because I figured it was about damn time I read Adam Silvera’s debut novel that everyone fell in love with. And I kind of can see why everyone was so obssessed with it. I have already started this and am about a hundred pages away from the end, and I am so nervous, but also very excited, to see how everything wraps up. This novel follows sixteen-year-old Aaron Soto who is dealing with the affects of his father’s suicide from a few months earlier and trying to find happiness again. His girlfriend and mother are trying to help him, but when Genevieve leaves for a few weeks, he finds himself spending a lot of time with a guy named Thomas. He begins to grow feelings for Thomas as they spend more and more time together, and since Aaron can’t stay away from Thomas or turn off those feelings, he turns to the Leteo Institute who have a procedure that can alter and bury memories. He wants to forget he ever had feelings for Thomas or any guy for that matter. This book is so amazing from what I’ve read so far, and it has made me feel all the feels. I am super excited to see where the rest of the story takes me!

The next book I bought was Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.

51vf3a1rfzl-_sx330_bo1204203200_

This is a standalone contemporary novel that I picked up because I have been meaning to pick this up for forever and the movie comes out next year. But this story follows a sixteen-year-old boy named Simon Spiers who is currently in the closet about being gay. When an email gets into the wrong hands, he is at risk of being outed. Being blackmailed by the class clown Martin into being his wingman, if he doesn’t comply, his sexual identity will be revealed, and the privacy of Blue, the pen name for the boy Simon has been emailing, will be compromised as well. This sounds really good, and pretty much everyone has been raving about how fantastic this book is, and I figure now is a good time to give it a shot. I am really excited to read this!

And the last book I bought was Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare.

30312891

This is the second book in The Dark Artifices trilogy, and I am so pumped to read this book. This series takes place in the world of the Shadowhunters Chronicles, and it follows two parabatai, Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn. If you remember them, they were in City of Heavenly Fire, the finale to The Mortal Instuments. Five years have passed since the events of The Mortal Instruments and another body has shown up with the same mysterious symbols that were burned onto the dead bodies of Emma’s parents. She is trying to figure out who really killed them and there may even be some forbidden romance thrown into the mix. The first book was fantastic, and it ended on a cliffhanger, so I have been waiting for over a year for some answers. I am so excited to get to this!

The last few books were sent to me for review by either the author or the publisher, the first of which is Splintered Souls by Raye Wagner.

34745596

This is a standalone novella set in the same world as the Runes series by Ednah Walters, and this follows a Valkyrie named Aricela who has been tasked with earning the trust of fallen athletes and warriors and taking them to Valhalla for the final battle. When her lack thereof in that department catches the attention of the Norns, they say that she has two options: she either collects the souls of those that are destined to die or she will be stripped of her powers and sent to Hel. I have already read this, and I really enjoyed it. I think I gave it 4.5/5 stars. It surprised me with how good it was. I was not expecting much, and it gave me much more. Really enjoyed this!

The next book that the author sent me was Son of War by Raye Wagner.

34745603

This is a companion novella to the Sphinx series by the same author (one of my all time favorite series), and it tells the origin story of a character you meet in that series, Xan who is the son of Ares, thus making him a demigod. This story really tells you what Xan was like prior to meeting Hope (the main character of the Sphinx series) and why he was who he was. I have also already read this, and I gave it 4/5 stars. I talked more about my thoughts on it in my April Wrap Up, but I did really enjoy the insight we received on Xan’s character, and I thought this was a good companion to the Sphinx series.

And the last book I received in the month of May was from Penguin Random House, and they sent me Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves.

9781101935996

This is the first book in a fantasy trilogy that follows this girl named Anna Arden who lives in a magical society where magic equates your status, and she is born of a family with magic, yet she doesn’t seem to possess any herself. However, she does have this ability to unravel or break spells, and this catches the eye of a few too many people, so her mother sends her away to live with her grandmother in Hungary where she may find herself in the throes of war and rebellion. I have already read this as well, and I really enjoyed it. I gave this 4.5/5 stars, and I am really excited to see where the rest of the story can go with the last two books. It will definitely be interesting!

And there you have it! Those were all of the books I have accumulated over the past couple of months. What is a book you have bought recently? Comment down below! And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time!

February Book Haul!

Hey, guys! I really thought I wouldn’t buy any books this month, but as you very well know, obviously that didn’t happen. When does this ever happen? I have no impulse control whatsoever when it comes to buying books. But I think its okay because these books were all bargain books, and I ended up buying six books for less than thirty dollars. Book Outlet is a godsend. But let’s just go ahead and get into the haul!

The first book I bought was City of Glass by Cassandra Clare.

3777732

This is the third book in the fabulous The Mortal Instruments series, and surprisingly, I did not have a copy of the original cover of this book. I do have a copy of the new covers of this book, but lately I’ve been trying to complete my collection of these books. In the original covers, I now only need City of Ashes and City of Fallen Angels. I am so happy that I finally got a copy of this book because I have been trying to complete this collection for years. This series is one that most people have heard of. It involves demon hunting, warlocks, vampires, faeries, and just general badassery along with gorgeous writing, and well-written characters. Its fabulous, and I highly recommend you check it out, if you haven’t already. Again, so excited to have this one!

The next book I bought was Far, Far Away by Tom McNeal.

16644280

This is a book that I have heard pretty much nothing about, but the story line intrigued me, so I bought it. This is a story that follows Jeremy Johnson Johnson, a boy who hears a voice, and that is the voice of Jacob Grimm, one half of the Brothers Grimm. Jacob watches over Jeremy and protects him, but he can’t protect him from everything, so when a girl named Ginger Boultinghouse takes a bite of a cake that is rumored to be bewitched, she falls in love with the first person she sees, which so happens to be Jeremy. But this cannot be good because a sinister evil called the Finder of Occassions is watching and waiting, and as this does involve the Brothers Grimm, we all know those fairy tales do not end well. I jumped right on this train because I love anything and everything to do with the Brothers Grimm because I was obsessed with those stories growing up. But I am very excited to dive into this one soon!

The next book I bought was Confess by Colleen Hoover.

22609310

This is a standalone contemporary novel that follows Auburn Reed, a girl who has everything mapped out, but that all changes when she walks into an Art Studio, looking for a job, and meets Owen Gentry, an artist who works there. She puts her heart into control and starts a relationship with Owen, but he is keeping major secrets, and these threaten to destroy everything important to Auburn, so she decides the only way to preserve those things, is to cut Owen out of her life. He doesn’t want to lose her, but the only way to save their relationship would be to confess, but the confession might be infinitely worse than the actual sin. I wanted to read another one of Colleen’s books, so I picked this one up, and it sound so compelling, so hopefully I will get to it soon!

The next book I bought is City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare.

images

This is the last book in The Mortal Instruments series, and I am so glad I finally got a copy of this one. I do have a copy of this in the original cover, but this one is just so beautiful, and it is one of the last books I needed to complete my collection of the new covers. I still need a copy of City of Lost Souls in the new covers. But these books are so beautiful, and while I do prefer the original covers, these covers are still stunning. But this series is one of my all time favorites, and I am so happy to finally be completing my collection of them!

The next book I bought was Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.

18692431

This is a standalone contemporary novel that I actually have already read and enjoyed. It was fabulous, but this story follows a girl named Madeline who hasn’t been outside in eighteen years because she is allergic to the outside world. And then one day a family moves in next door, and they have a son named Olly who quickly becomes intrigued by Madeline. Sparks fly, forbidden love happens, and its just my everything, everything. (Come on. You had to know I would put that in there.) Also, Madeline is a person of color, so there is diversity in this book!! I am very glad I decided to pick this one up because it was a good one!

The last book I bought in February was Truthwitch by Susan Dennard.

21414439

This is the first book in the Witchlands series, and I did already own a copy of this, but my friend Lauren has had it since last March, and I figured I could just let her keep it, and I could buy a new one. Which worked out for the both of us, I think. Anyway, this is a high fantasy book centered around the friendship between Safiya and Iseult. In this world, people have a witchery, and Safi is a truthwitch, which is really rare, and Iseult is a threadwitch, meaning she can see the bonds between people. These two girls find themselves caught up in a political battle for power because truthwitches are sought after by all, and this puts a target on Safi’s back. Its very action-packed, well written, and such a kickass novel that I really enjoyed. The second book, Windwitch, came out last month (which I already own a copy of), and I am hoping I will get to that book soonish. But who knows?

And there you have it! That was my February Book Haul! What’s your favorite book that you bought/received this month? Comment down below! And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

Allie’s First Book Haul of 2017

Hey, guys! I am very excited to come at you with my very first book haul of this year! I wasn’t planning on having a book haul until like the end of February. And then I sneezed, it was the end of January and I found that I had bought like nine books. Not even joking. I am literally so terrified of the size of my TBR because I got so many books for Christmas and then I got birthday money, and I literally have no time to read at all. This semester of college is really kicking my ass. I am so overwhelmed with coursework, but we shouldn’t get into that. Let’s just jump right in and talk about the books that I bought in January!

The first book I bought is The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia.

27414434

This is a stand alone contemporary novel that I didn’t even know I wanted this until it was in my hands. I knew that I loved the cover and I had seen it all over Bookstagram, but I didn’t even know that I wanted to read it. It wasn’t even on my TBR shelf on Goodreads. But this story follows Frankie Devereaux, a girl who is haunted by her past and lives by one simple rule: Nothing Matters. After a dangerous mistake, she ends up moving in with her dad and going to a new public school where street racing is pretty popular. Its that street racing scene that she meets the sexy and hypnotic Marco Leone. And the story just takes off from there. It sounds really good, and it is giving me forbidden romance vibes, which is a plus, and I hope to get to this one soon!

The next book I bought is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

17344669

This is a book that I had no interest in reading whatsoever until I started watching the amazing show Emerald City on NBC. That show is absolutely fabulous. Its a modern take on The Wizard of Oz traditional story with a Game of Thrones twist on it. It is dark and captivating, and I just love it so much. I highly recommend you check it out. But the show just made me curious as to what the original work is like and how the show is alike and different from the novel. I hope to get to this one at some point!

The next book I bought is Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken.

20983366

This is the second and final book in the Passenger Duology, and this is actually a new release of January, and it is one of my most anticipated releases of 2017. I have already read this, and it was absolutely fanfreakingtastic. Its probably one of my favorite finales I have ever read and it will be on my favorites list for this year. Since it is a sequel, I can’t tell you about this book, but the first book, Passenger, is a scavenger hunt through time. We follow Etta, a girl who discovers she can time travel, and she is being forced to look for this object that is hidden somewhere in time. And if she doesn’t find it, her mother will be killed. Its very action-packed, thrilling, diverse, and the first book is a bit heavy on the romance, but it didn’t really bother me all that much. This second book was everything I wanted and more, and I am so glad I bought it. I highly recommend you check out this duology!

The next book I bought is A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

8621462

This is a standalone novel that follows a young boy named Connor who is going through some pretty serious things, namely his mom being sick. She has cancer and he is having trouble coping with the inevitability of her death. So this Monster comes and tells him stories that will help him face his fears about her death and really cope and deal with her being sick. Its a super powerful story, very captivating, and it has illustrations throughout it, which was one of my favorite things about it. This is the sort of story that I know will stay with me for a long time, and yes, I have read it as well. This is another book that I am sure will be on my favorites list this year. I highly, highly recommend you check this out!

The next book I bought is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.

11422

This is a book that is retelling of a bible story, and it has actually been on my TBR for quite a while, several years. If you aren’t aware (because I don’t usually talk about it), I am a practicing evangelical Christian, so this was a book that I’ve had my eye on and Natasha of Tashapolis on YouTube talks about how much she loves this book, so I am very excited I finally picked it up. It is also a historical drama book, and it is also considered a western. This story follows Angel, a prostitute that hates men, but that soon changes when she meets Michael Hosea. He is a man who follows God, and he obeys God in that he loves her unconditionally and he marries her. Angel starts getting these feelings of unworthiness and fear, so she runs, runs away from Michael and the terrifying truth that her final healing will have to come from God. It definitely sounds up my alley, and I am very excited to get to this eventually!

The next book I bought is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

25739188

It must be a miracle, guys. I finally bought The Book Thief. If you remember my raving about this particular edition, or if you don’t, this is the special anniversary edition, and it is absolutely beautiful. This is the edition I specifically wanted, and I didn’t even realize it until I got home, but this edition of the book is signed! I was way too excited when I figured that out. But this is a book that pretty much everyone loves. I have never met or talked to a person that has not liked this book. I have started it several times via audiobook, and I have just gotten distracted, and I don’t know if that’s because it is an audiobook or what, but I just really want to read this. This is a historical fiction novel, and it is uniquely told in the perspective of Death. It is set in World War II Germany and it follows a little girl named Liesel Meminger who is a book thief. She steals books when she can and shares them with her neighbors during bombing raids and with the Jewish man hidden in her basement. I know it is a much more powerful story than that sounds, but I am very excited to read this, and see why everyone is obsessed with it.

The next book I bought is My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.

22840421

I have heard pretty fantastic things about this, and everyone says it is absolutely hilarious, which has me excited because I haven’t read a genuinely funny book in a while. From what I can tell, its more of a parody of historical fiction. Its the not-so-true story of Lady Jean Grey, and it follows Jane (obviously) who is about to married off to a stranger and she ends up caught up in this conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of the throne, but that problem doesn’t even compare to her current problem: She is about to be the Queen of England. It sounds like it will be absolutely hilarious, very intersting and action-packed, and just a really light hearted read. I am super excited to read this one, and I am currently debating on whether I should read this soon or wait until Finals week when I need to read something light hearted…Let me know down in the comments what you think I should do!

The next book I bought is The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon.

28763485

This is a standalone contemporary novel that I have heard pretty fantastic things about it. Kat of Katytastic said it was one of her absolute favorite reads of 2016. I didn’t even know that I wanted to read this until it was in my hands in the book store, but this story follows a girl named Natasha whose family is about to be deported to Jamaica, and ends up falling in love with a boy on a crowded New York City street. This boy, Daniel, has always been the good son, the good guy, and never a dreamer, but that all changes when he meets Natasha. This sounds super cheesy and cliche, but apparently Nicola takes the idea of instalove and love at first sight and makes it into a very beautiful and realistic story, according to reviewers, so I am very excited to see what my take on the story is!

And the last book I received in the month of January is Melody’s Key by Dallas Coryell.

30807954

This was sent to me for review by Dallas, so thank you for sending this to me! Dallas is an indie author, and this is actually his first book. Its actually too hard to summarize what this book is about, so I am just going to quote the description, which I got off of Goodreads. “Tegan Lockwood’s dreams were dead, sacrificed on the noble altar of duty before they ever had a chance to live. Her entire existence was disappearing into the abyss of apathy as she labored her days away keeping her family’s struggling business alive. There would be no emotion, no color, no beauty in her life. That is, until a mysterious visitor begins to draw her out of the darkness of her past towards something that will challenge the boundaries of her world, and unlock the most deeply held secrets of her heart.” This sounds super interesting, and I am very excited to see what the story is all about, and see what I think of it!

And there you have it! Those were all of the books I bought/received in the month of January! What is one of your favorite indie authors? Comment down below! And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

Happy Haulidays!

Hey, guys! I can’t believe that Christmas is over and we are about to head into the New Year (and I actually turn 19 tomorrow, which is also exciting.) And with the end of the month, comes time for me to talk about all of the exciting books I got this Christmas because my mother and grandmother love me! My grandmother literally let me loose in Target on Black Friday and told me to buy $60 worth of books that I wanted for Christmas. But let’s get into these fabulous books!

Books I Received From My Mother:

The first book I received was This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab.

23299512

This is the first book in the Monsters of Verity series and literally the only thing I know about this is it is centered around a girl who wants to be a monster and a monster who wants to be a normal boy. I really just wanted it because everyone has been raving about it and I have been meaning to read one of Victoria Schwab’s books for a while now. I follow her on Twitter and she is literally so hilarious and I just love this woman so much. I am currently reading this and it will be my first read of 2017. I am just so excited to see where the story takes me!

The second book I received was Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas.

28260587

This is the fifth book in the fabulous Throne of Glass series and I am so excited to eventually hopefully read this. As you may or may not know, I have been procrastinating in reading this series. I have only read the first three books and have been meaning to read Queen of Shadows since like April or May of this year…Oops. These books are just massive and their size intimidates the hell out of me. But what I can tell you about this series (that I literally rave about in every other post. You all should know what it is about by now.), is that it follows a sixteen year old assassin named Celaena Sardothien who, in the first book, is being entered in a competition with other assassins, thieves and the like to become the King’s Champion, which is pretty much his personal assassin. Its a kickass series that will break you apart and put you back together in the best possible way, and I just love it so damn much. And I hate myself for procrastinating in reading this series. Because its so great! But I digress.

The third book I received was The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski.

20443235

This is the third and final book in The Winner’s Trilogy, and I am so happy I got this so when I go back to college, I can just binge read the last two books in the trilogy. I read the first book a couple of months ago and I really enjoyed it, so I am very excited to read the last two books. And the cover matches! That was my thing with this novel. I wanted a cover that matched the editions I have. If you aren’t aware, this is a dystopian series that features poltics and war and I just really like this series. It is pretty different from other dystopian series that I have read because of the heavy focus on politics, especially with the military. If you haven’t started this series, I highly recommend you do because I have heard nothing but fantastic things about this series in general and the end of the series as well!

The last book I received from my mother was Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover.

17788401

This is a contemporary novel that I have been dying to get my hands on. I have been wanting to read a book by Colleen ever since I started seeing Christine of PolandbananasBOOKS rave about her books on her YouTube channel. This novel features two people who are having a no-strings attached physical sort of relationship (I would say friends with benefits, but they aren’t friends). Miles is a pilot and I know Tate works on the plan, but I am not sure in what capacity (she might be a flight attendant? Don’t quote me on that, though.). Literally that’s all I needed to know to be hooked on this book. Also, its becoming a movie! (Supposedly releasing in 2018.) I am so excited to finally read this and it will probably be on my TBR for next month.

Books I Received From My Grandmother:

The first book I received was Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, and Robin Wasserman.

28954137

This is the bind up for all the companion novellas that follow Simon Lewis after the events of City of Heavenly Fire, but before Lady Midnight. I have heard nothing but great things about these novellas and I did read Lady Midnight without reading these novellas…I am not ashamed, guys. I devoured Lady Midnight and it was still fabulous even without having read these novellas. I can’t really tell you what this is about because spoilers, but I am very excited to eventually get to these!

The second book I received was An Ember In the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

27774758

This is the first book in the series of that same name, and I wanted this novel because everyone has been raving about it, and because I also follow Sabaa on Twitter and she seems like such a lovely person. I have watched some of her interviews on BookTube, and I fell in love with her as a person and now I just want to fall in love with her as an author, as a writer. She is a total fangirl and I love her to death. This is considered a fantasy novel, but I can’t tell that its fantasy from the description; it seems more like a dystopian novel. But maybe its a fantasy-dystopian novel. From what I can tell, we follow Laia, a girl who in exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother who was arrested for treason, will become a spy for them in the Empire’s military academy. There she meets Elias, the school’s best soldier and really, he just wants to escape the tyranny he’s trained to enforce. It sounds super intriguing and I hope I get to this one soon!

The third book I received was Yellow Brick War by Danielle Paige.

18602406

This is the third and final book in the Dorothy Must Die Trilogy and it is ridiculously short. Its like less than three hundred pages. I think it would have just been better to have The Wicked Will Rise (Book 2) and Yellow Brick War be one book. They’re both super short. And it would have saved everyone a lot of money. But anyway, this series is a retelling (of sorts) of The Wizard of Oz, and it follows a young girl from Kansas named Amy Gumm who finds herself transported to Oz where she is trained by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked to wield magic and carry out a mission. In this series, Dorothy came back to Oz and got drunk with power, taking over all of Oz. The line is blurred between Good and Evil and Amy’s one mission is this: Dorothy Must Die. This series is so good, and I am so freaking excited to see how it ends, though I do wish the conclusion was a bit longer. The first book was so much longer than this one. But I am sure it will be badass and spectacular, and I am so ready to see how Danielle concludes the series.

The fourth book I received was Replica by Lauren Oliver.

28448287

This is a book I’ve wanted to read ever since I heard about it, particularly the way you read it. This book is unique in that one side of the book is Gemma’s POV while the other side is Lyra’s POV. You can read Gemma’s POV and then Lyra’s (or vice versa) or you could read one chapter in Lyra’s and then the other in Gemma’s. Both girls have two completely different lives and have two different stories that end up colliding, and that is all I want to know. I really just want to go into this book blind, and I recommend you do that too. I am very excited to get to this, but also apprehensive because I’ve read some of her other books and they weren’t the greatest. I wasn’t super impressed with them and this doesn’t have a super high rating on Goodreads. But I will try to not let that influence me reading the novel. Super excited to get to this!

The final book I received from my grandmother was Something In Between by Melissa de la Cruz.

28688476

This is a contemporary novel that follows a teenage immigrant named Jasmine de los Santos who is pretty much a good girl. She does what she’s told and doesn’t do anything to upset her family or jeopardize her future. She even gets a full-ride college scholarship, but her perfect world shatters when her parents come clean that their visas expired years ago, and they are living in the United States as Illegals. That scholarship goes away, she might not be able to go to college at all, and she and her family might be deported. This prompts Jasmine to do all the bad things she never did growing up, all the things she never had time to do. In doing this, she meets Royce Blakely, a boy who is the son of a Congressman and a total dreamboat. She starts making up her own rules as she goes along and living life like she’s going to die tomorrow because she might not be able to do these things for much longer anyway. It sounds so compelling and talks about a serious topic in our culture today, a topic that needs to be talked about. And its diverse! You know me. All about them diverse books. But again, I am so excited to finally be able to read this!

I also received a Bookish Item from my mother. Its a pillow designed by Evie Seo!

15624209_358972404462366_7709012580269817856_n-2

This pillow is so gorgeous and I love it so much. I am obsessed with the design and the quote. The color scheme is so pretty and it is going to look fabulous in my bookstagram photos (if you’re curious, I’m @alliecatreads if you want to follow me. Got to have that self-promo plug in there). This was something I had wanted for a while and I will definitely be buying more items from Evie because all of her designs are gorgeous!

In addition to the books I received for Christmas, Raye Wagner sent me an e-ARC of the third book in her Sphinx series, Myths of Immortality.

29412228

As I said, this is the third book in this fabulous series, and I am so excited to read this! I have started this and will finish it next month, so it will be in my January TBR, but this is probably one of my most anticipated releases of 2017 (it officially releases January 12, so keep your eye out for it). I am part of Raye’s Street Team (we call ourselves Raye’s Renegades) and I am also part of her launch team for Myths of Immortality. I was on the launch team for Demigods and Monsters (Book 2) last year as well, and I just really love Raye and her books are always fantastic. This series is full of Greek Mythology, love, loss, and general badassery. You guys need to read this series. Her books get better and better and they showcase how much she grows as a writer with each book, and this series is one of my favorites, so you all should definitely check these babies out. You will not be sorry. And this is 100% my opinion. I swear. I am not being paid to read these. I am not being paid for my opinions. They are just that good!

And there you have it! That was my Christmas/December Book Haul. I love everything I received this month and I am so excited for the coming year. But that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, I hope you have a fabulous New Year’s, and I will see you next time!

Allie’s Accidental Black Friday Book Haul

Hey, guys! I assume you remember when I told you that I wasn’t going to be buying any books in November. And I totally intended to not buy any books this month. But then I went Black Friday shopping with my mom and grandma and I sort of bought ten books (They were on sale, so I think that’s okay…right?) and I was sent two books. This book haul is going to have twelve freaking books to haul. I can’t tell you the last time I had that many books to haul. And I swear it was an accident. I just sort of starting picking up books in the bargain store and before I knew it, I was holding ten books. But let’s just go ahead and get into this massive book haul!

The first book I received is The Rose Society by Marie Lu, and I was sent this kindly by Penguin Random House, so thank you for sending this to me!

23846013

This is the second book in The Young Elites trilogy, and I am so freaking excited to get into this! If you are not aware, this series tells the story of how a teenage girl who had powers fell and instead of the traditional story in which the girl would become the hero, she becomes the villainess. This series is so freaking great and mindblowing and holy hell, you need to read this if you have not. This story is very dark, but very thrilling and gripping and I am just so happy I got this book. The third and final book in the series just came out, The Midnight Star, and I am hoping I can get my hands on that one. Again, very excited to get to this one and I will probably end up taking a break from reading Heartless and end up reading this one. I highly, highly recommend you check out this series!

The next book I was sent is Now I Know It’s Not My Fault by Laurie B. Levine, and I was sent this by the author, so thank you, Laurie, for sending this my way!

32869318

This novel will be released on January 15, 2017, so keep your out for it, and it is a novel that is about trauma and its a subject that isn’t really talked about. I can’t tell what kind of trauma it is because the synopsis is pretty vague, but from what I can tell, its a novel that follows a teenage girl named Alexandra Geller who is having trouble at home, so she’s vulnerable and her science teacher, Paula, senses this vulnerability. She latches onto it and “befriends” Alex, leading her to believe it is a “mother-daughter” relationship when in reality, it soon becomes a student-teacher trauma bond that causes relationships in her life to crack under the pressure of that bond. This sounds super interesting and like it will be a very powerful story. I will be getting to this book soon and will have a spoiler-free review up, so stay tuned for that!

The next book is one that I bought and it is Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes.

17342700

This is the third book in the Falling Kingdoms series and I am very excited to read this, you know, eventually. I have only read the first book in the series, but it was epic and mind-blowing and I really, really enjoyed it! (I swear I will be posting the review sometime. I just don’t have time to sit down and work on it…) This is a high fantasy series that focuses on four people, royals and rebels alike, who are key players in a war who find their fates intertwined. Magnus, Cleo, Lucia, and Jonas are caught in a world of betrayal, murder, alliances, and even love. Its honestly better to go into this blind, which is what I did, and I am so glad I knew nothing because it was fabulous and that just makes me excited to get to books 2 and 3. Hoping to get to this one soon!

The next book I bought is Half Bad by Sally Green.

18621194

This book was like two dollars and I had heard of it before, which was why I picked it up. I didn’t even read the back of it, so I literally know absolutely nothing about it. I don’t even know what genre this book is. The cover was also a little bit captivating and it drew me to it, so I just went ahead and bought it. I think this might be about witches, though. I just read the back of it, so this actually sounds right up my alley, so I will be getting to this some time, though probably not until 2017 because I have way too many books on my TBR right now. But yeah, I am super excited to get to this!

The next book I bought is Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King.

21558901

I mostly bought this because I promises my best friend I would read more Stephen King novels and this was like four dollars, so I went ahead and bought it. This is a mystery, it seems like it has some horror elements (which I was expecting; he is the King of Horror after all), and it might be a bit of a thriller. It looks like it will have some interesting combinations of things I enjoy in books, and I am very excited to get to it some time in the future!

The next book I bought is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

24885537

This is the paperback edition of the new covers of The Mortal Instruments series, and I bought it because I am trying to build up my collection of these novels. This was like two dollars, so I bought it, and I am not ashamed because this cover is gorgeous. I love this cover, despite the end of it being cut off (I hate this fad that they have been doing with paperbacks. Its so annoying and I freaking hate it). I am very happy to finally have this and I am hoping I can get the rest of the new covers soon. I currently own, in addition to this one, City of Ashes, City of Glass, and City of Fallen Angels in these editions. I only own City of Bones, City of Lost Souls, and City of Heavenly Fire in the original editions, so hopefully I will get the rest of the series in the original covers as well.

The next book I bought is The Innocents by Lili Peloquin.

13513071

The synopsis doesn’t tell me shit about this book, so I know nothing about it other than it involves two sisters, apparently a ton of romance, and its a gothic mystery book. I am pretty sure its a series, and I can’t tell you anymore than that because I have never heard of this before, so I might get to this some time or I might not. I am actually debating on making this a Christmas present for a friend…

The next book I bought is Waterfall by Lauren Kate.

19401029

I am just now realizing this is the second book in the Tear Drop series, so I can’t say anything about it because I don’t own and have not read the first book. I know its a series that I have been interested in reading, but just haven’t yet. I won’t be getting to this any time soon, but I hopefully will be getting to the first book in the near future.

The next book I bought is Zodiac by Romina Russell.

20821306

I can honestly tell you the only reason I bought this is because the cover is freaking gorgeous and I am in love with it. But after buying it, I actually read the back of it and it sounds super interesting. Now I don’t believe in the Zodiac signs predicting your future or whatever, but this plot line sounds extremely interesting to me. From what I can gather, it is a science fiction and maybe even a little bit of a fantasy novel that follows a girl named Rho who belongs to the House Cancer and is named the new House Leader. When a freak catastrophe attacks the moons surrounding her planet and then more attacks on other planets start occurring she notices a pattern in which it looks like Ophiuchus, the exiled Thirteenth Guardian of the Zodiac, may be responsible. You know the drill. She gets some friends together and they are going to try to stop him. This sounds so interesting, and I am super excited to get to this soonish.

The next book I bought is Venom by Fiona Paul.

9999795

I am not going to lie, this a book I bought solely because of the cover. Its gorgeous, and I have wanted to get this for a while because of how pretty the cover is. This book is set in Renaissance Venice, Italy from what I can tell, and it follows a girl named Cassandra Caravello who is one of the elites in this time and she enjoys living in luxury, that is until she stumbles upon a murdered woman. That’s all I am going to say about it because I am very interested in this book. I am interested in reading about Renaissance, Italy, and this sounds very interesting, so I am hoping I will get to it soon.

The next book I bought is The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith.

18214414

This is the second book in the Cormoran Strike series by an author you may know, J. K. Rowling, who is writing under a pseudonym. I have the first book, The Cuckoo’s Calling, but I haven’t read it yet. I am hoping I will read it soon, but who knows? I know nothing about this series, but I have heard pretty good things about it, so I am excited to get to it eventually!

And the last book that I bought is Revival by Stephen King.

20926278

This is another novel I bought because its Stephen King, but from what I can gather, this book is about addiction, the dangers of obsessive religion, and I think this is a horror novel. I know nothing else about it, but I am hoping to get to this one soon. If I do end up picking up a Stephen King novel, this will be the first one that I read!

And there you have it! Those were all of the books that I bought and received in the month of November. What was your favorite book that you bought this month? Comment down below! And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

October Book Haul!

Hello! So I didn’t actually think I was going to do this post because I didn’t think I bought enough books this month because I had planned on putting a book-buying ban on myself. That didn’t exactly happen and now my bank account is suffering. For real this time, though, I am not going to be buying any books in November. My TBR is large enough already. Let’s go ahead and get into the books I bought in October!

The first book I bought is Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

29236299

This is the second book in the Illuminae Files series and this was actually a preorder because this book came out on October 18. We follow two different characters than the ones from Illuminae, but it is absolutely necessary to read Illuminae first because the two stories tie themselves together. I can’t tell you much about it other than it is uniquely told through texts and emails and IMs. It is really cool. It is also pure science fiction and it is fabulous. Gemina topped Illuminae, which was awesome (Yes, I already read it), but I will talk more about my thoughts in my monthly wrap up.

The next book that I bought is The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan.

27904311

This is the second book in the Magnus Chase series by Rick Riordan and I am so freaking excited to get into this one. I am about fifty pages into this one and didn’t really have time to read it anymore, but know that I am literally laughing out loud in this book. The humor is at an all time high and I really appreciate it. The first book, The Sword of Summer, follows Magnus Chase (obviously) who is living on the streets of Boston when he is forced to meet someone his mother always told him to stay away from. And what do you know? He ends up learning he is the son of a Norse god. That’s all I can say about it. But know it is great and you definitely should pick it up. And then read this one so we can discuss it together in my review!

The next book I bought is The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski.

20443207

Can we just sit back and admire the beauty of this cover? It is freaking gorgeous. I bought a used edition of this book on Amazon for like three dollars and it was so much better in person. It is hardback, its bound by library binding without all of the annoying stickers and it has deckled edges. What more could you want? But this is the second book in The Winner’s Trilogy, so I can’t tell you much about it. The first book, The Winner’s Curse, focused on Kestrel, our main character, who is the General’s daughter who makes an inpulsive decision that bind a boy named Arin to her. That is literally all I can say without spoiling it. But it is so good. Highly recommend! I am super excited to get into the sequel!

The next book that I bought is Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

12954620

This is the first book in the Falling Kingdoms series and I have been wanting to read this book for so long. I actually bought this when it was marked down on Book Outlet, despite me being on a hugely strict book buying ban. Like I absolutely cannot buy anything else. But I had to get this. I don’t know what it is about other than there is a character named Magnus and this is fantasy. I don’t want to know more. I just really want to go into this book blind. I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews and I am so excited to read this!

The next book that I bought was Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes.

16000044

Yes, I also bought the second book in the series. I never said I make good decisions! *hides under pile of books* Once again, I know nothing about this book or this series, but I know it is amazing, according to Sasha of Abookutopia on YouTube. She has been raving about this series. I actually bought this and Falling Kingdoms because they were almost completely out of stock on Book Outlet and the bargain price would be gone soon, so I just went ahead and bought these two. I have no impulse control, okay!

And the last book that I bought in the month of October is Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

25946985

I actually bought the ebook version of this because it has three books in one rather than the one book in the print version. If you aren’t aware, this is the first three books of the Lux series in Daemon’s point of view. I have wanted to read this since it came out last December. I just never got around to getting it. But I am so glad that I did. I am currently reading this and I started it last night. I ended up staying up until 5 am reading it and I finished the Obsidian portion of the book. That’s the first book in the series and it is over 350 pages. I devoured it. I haven’t stayed up reading like that in years and it felt so good to do that! But anyway, if you don’t know, this is a series with aliens and sass and sexiness and just general greatness. You should go into it pretty blind. These books are super easy to read and are the one thing that always gets me out of my reading slumps. This series, in a way, is like a piece of candy. It doesn’t provide you with any nutritional value, but damn it is good. I highly, highly recommend this series!!

But there you have it! That was my October Book Haul. This is going to be the last book haul you see until my Christmas/December/Birthday Book Haul (my birthday is at the end of December), possibly my last one for this year. I am not going to be buying any books whatsoever for the rest of the year. I have way too many on my TBR anyway. What book did you read to celebrate Halloween? I, unfortunately, didn’t have the book I wanted to read here with me at the University (I was going to reread The Forbidden Game by L. J. Smith), so I just read my usual pile of fantasy books! And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

September Book Haul

Hello! Believe it or not, I violated the book-buying ban I put on myself a few weeks ago. I know. Who would have thought I would do that? I ended up buying five books this month, but I can’t bring myself to regret that. These are all books that I have wanted for a while, and has me so psyched to get into. But let’s go ahead and get into the haul!

The first book that I bought is The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas.

22529351

This is a collection of prequel novellas to Sarah’s Throne of Glass series, and I needed to have it. I can’t read Queen of Shadows until I read these novellas, so that was most of my motivation to buy this because normally I don’t buy novella bind ups. Most of the time they really are not necessary to read, but I’ve been told these are absolutely necessary. I have read 4/5 of these, so I am excited because I can start Queen of Shadows soon!

The next book I bought was Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne.

29056083

Everyone has been buzzing about this book. It is everywhere. If you aren’t aware of this, you must be completely cut off from the world. This is the script for the play in London. It isn’t a novel and it would be a mistake to consider it the eighth Harry Potter book. While there have been so many mixed things being said about this novel, I am still very excited to read it!

The next book I bought is The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski.

21469136

This is the first book in The Winner’s Trilogy, and I am currently reading and loving this. This is a dystopian novel and our main protagonist, Kestrel, is the general’s daughter who is a terrible fighter, but amazing musician who impulsively binds a slave, Arin, to her. That’s all I can say without spoiling you, but just know it is so good and I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews about this!

The next book I bought is What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler.

20922826

This is a novel that Jesse of JesseTheReader on YouTube raves about, which was my initial motivation to picking this one up. I know it involves rape and that’s all I need to know. I am sold. I don’t want to know anything else because I want to go into it blind. I know it is a powerful story and I am super excited to get to this one!

And the last book that I bought in the month of September is Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

22299763

This is the second and final book in the Six of Crows Duology and it is one of my most anticipated releases of this year. I am super excited to see how this story wraps up because Six of Crows was off the charts amazing! If you don’t already know, Six of Crows is about six misfits trying to pull off a huge heist. It has amazing plot, characters, and writing, and I highly recommend you check it out! Super excited to get to this one!

Those were the books that I bought in the month of September! What book are you most excited to get to this month? I definitely am most excited to get to Crooked Kingdom. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

July Book Haul

Hello! Another month has gone by with my inability to control my urges in buying books. I got 6 books, some of them e-books, which is not too bad for me. It isn’t like I will be buying books while I am in college. Move In Day is less than a month away! Crazy. But let’s get into the books that I bought this month.

The first book I bought is Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

18296030

I got the e-book version of this. This is a stand alone novel, a mystery. Our main character, Sam, disappeared with her friend Cassie, but when she resurfaces, she has no recollection of anything. And it looks like something really bad happened that night and someone wants to make sure she stays quiet. It sounds super intriguing and I may even start reading this next month!

The next book I bought is The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings.

13576132

I bought this in its e-book format. All I know about this is it is a thriller and in this world, the death rate is higher than the birth rate. It sounds really interesting and I am excited to read this!

The next book I bought is Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

22895264

I bought the e-book version of this. This book is set in New Orleans and it follows Ivy  Morgan, a college student who is bound to the Order, which is an organization that hunts these creatures that roam the French Quarter. Obviously there is swoon-worthy romance because it is Jennifer L. Armentrout. I am so freaking excited to get into this! I haven’t read a book by her in forever. I will hopefully get to this in August.

The next book I bought is The Last Star by Rick Yancey.

16131489

This is the third and final book in The 5th Wave series and I am so freaking excited (and slightly terrified) to see how this story closes out. There were so many revelations in The Infinite Sea and it just makes me anticipate reading this even more. Now this isn’t super high up on my TBR, but its up there and I will hopefully get to it soon.

The next book I bought is Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas.

18006496

This is the fourth book in the fabulous Throne of Glass series and I have been meaning to get my hands on this for months. Heir of Fire left me with the biggest cliffhanger of all time and I really need to read this because the fifth book comes out in September. If you are unaware, this is a series centered around a kickass assassin set in a high fantasy world. I AM SO EXCITED TO GET TO THIS!

And the final book that I bought in July is The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson.

17838528

This is a book that has been literally everywhere and has been getting so much hype. It is a contemporary set in the summer and from what I can gather, it follows a politician’s daughter, and after her father is involved in some type of scandal, she starts walking dogs and meets a guy named Clark. That’s literally all I can get from the description. It is so vague, but I love it because I am going into this partially blind. I will hopefully get to this one next month!

Those were all the books I bought in the month of July. What was your favorite book you read this summer? Mine was definitely A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. And that is going to be it for this post today. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.

June Book Haul

Hello! For the first time in my blogging history, I am deciding to do a monthly book haul because I got so many books this month that I have to share what I got. As many of you know, I have a really bad book buying tendency/problem. In fact, I was yelled at twice this month for buying too many books and my mom almost confiscated my debit card. I bought/received nine books this month, so let’s get into the book haul!

20160628_151726

The first book I bought is A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

This book is the second book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and I am still currently reading it. I’ve been slowly making my way through this book all month. I have this bad habit of picking up this book, maybe reading a couple of pages and then putting it down and not reading it for days at a time (I did this again a couple of days ago). But more on that in my monthly wrap up. The first book is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast while this one is a retelling of Persephone and Hades. These books are phenomenal and I highly recommend you check them out. I did a book review on ACOTAR, which I will link here.

The next book I received is Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

This was one of my favorite childhood books. My grandmother found it at a garage sale and thought of me, so I finally own it in physical form (I have the e-book original version on my kindle along with its sequel Through the Looking Glass). If you don’t know what this is, you obviously have been living under a rock. Its a great book to read as a kid because it encourages embracing your awesomeness and teaches you that its okay to be different, wacky, and crazy. It really taught me to be myself and not worry about what other people will think. I don’t think I would be who I am today without this book.

The next book that I bought is Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

This is a contemporary novel that I’ve been dying to get my hands on and I saw a hardback edition when I was in Louisville at Half-Price Books for like less than five dollars, so obviously I had to have it. It follows a girl whose father is dying, so before he dies, her and her family spend one last summer with each other before he dies. This is what I think it is about, but I could be wrong. This sounds super sad, but also interesting and this is most people’s favorite Morgan Matson novel, so that has me even more intrigued. I am super excited to get into this one soon.

The next book that I received is Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards

This is the sequel to Black City, a dystopian romance novel that I read my sophomore year of high school. I’ve been interested in what happens in the rest of this series, so I will hopefully get to this some time. I saw it in The Dollar Tree, so Mom bought it for me. I honestly don’t remember all that much of Black City, so I will have to skim it to refresh my memory, but it was intriguing, if not a little cliched, but I am very interested in knowing what became of the characters.

The next book that I bought is Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

This is an adult contemporary novel that’s been sweeping the nation because of the release of the movie (which I still haven’t seen). I actually read this over vacation when I took a break from reading ACOMAF and I really enjoyed it. I do think it is really over hyped. I didn’t cry or feel sad while reading it, though I do really recommend it because it is a powerful story. It involves a controversial topic, a quadriplegic man, and an ordinary girl who learns to be extraordinary. It is a great novel and I think you should read it before seeing the movie. My review will be up soonish.

The next book that I bought is Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This is the first book in a dystopian trilogy that I have heard nothing but fantastic things about. From what I can gather, Mars has been colonized and everyone is separated into colors. There is some type of rebellion, like all dystopian novels. I know its supposed to be kickass and amazing and I am so excited to read this. I will probably read this next month, which is exciting because I haven’t read a dystopian novel in so long. It will definitely be refreshing.

The next book that I bought is Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

This is the Sarah Dessen book that pretty much everyone has read and I was told I had to read this. This is a contemporary that I know nothing about other than it might deal with a mental disorder? Maybe not. I could have that wrong. But I loved The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen, I love her writing, her writing style, and the way she weaves a story, so I know I’ll love this and I am anticipating getting to this very soon.

The next book that I bought is The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

This is a contemporary novel that I’ve actually already read and I loved it. This was my first Kasie West novel and it was fantastic. It involves a rich guy falling for a poor girl and as cliche as that sounds, it was actually very complex and interesting. This book made me literally LOL several times. It was cute and fluffy and funny and man did I love this book. I definitely recommend this and my review will be up soonish.

The last book that I bought is Crash Into You by Katie McGarry

This is a book that I’ve wanted to get for a while and as many of you know, I have no impulse control, so I bought it at Books A Million. Its a contemporary novel that involves a rich good girl who flirts with the dark side and she meets the bad boy who apparently saves her life. That is enough for me to want to read this now. I am super pumped to get into this no matter that this is the reason my debit card was almost confiscated. I feel like this is going to be worth it.

And that is going to be it for this book haul today. What book are you most interested in or love the most? Comment down below. I would love to know. Thank you all so much for reading this, I hope you enjoyed it, and I will see you next time.
