Book Review: “Lady Midnight” by Cassandra Clare | Spoiler-Free

Hello! So I decided to do a Spoiler-Free Review for those who haven’t read it, but want to as well as if you decide you want to read it. I can tell you that you don’t necessarily read the rest of the books of the Shadowhunters books, but I definitely recommend it. You might be  a little confused as to what exactly went down in the Dark War. However, every aspect of the Shadow World is explained in this book. The other series are The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, if you want to check those out.

Plot:

So this story surrounds two major character, Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn, who are parabatai. Emma’s parents were killed during the Dark War and everyone (except her, Julian, and Clary Fairchild) thought it was the work of Sebastian Morgenstern, Clary’s brother. But Emma obsessed over it and in this book, she hunts down the murderer and solves the mystery surrounding her parent’s death.

Now you have the subplot of Emma and Julian falling in love, which is one of the most forbidden laws of all of the Shadowhunters where they are parabatai.

My Thoughts:

This book was SO FREAKING AMAZING. I absolutely loved it. I devoured this book. I loved all of the characters (even the supporting characters which pretty much consisted of all of the Blackthorn children) and just every aspect and event that transpired throughout this story. You really grow attached to these characters and you think you can trust people, but you can’t. I knew this going into it and I still had no idea about who the real murderer was. I really recommend that you pick this book up. IT WAS FANTASTIC. AND I NEED BOOK 2 (Lord of Shadows) NOW.

5/5 hearts

By the way, there isn’t a cover for the book yet, but it is rumored to be released in May of 2017!!

Love You All to Luna and Back,

Allie

P. S. Just to give you an idea of the amount of characters you grow attached to in this book, here’s a list of the ones you see the most:

  • Emma Carstairs: 17
  • Julian Blackthorn: 17
  • Mark Blackthorn: 21ish
  • Livvy Blackthorn: 10
  • Ty Blackthorn: 10
  • Dru Blackthorn: 8
  • Tavvy: 7
  • And many, many more.
